This work is derivative of the thinking inherent in Piesterion: Diasematon. As expressed in its statement:
‘Diasematon is a two part word in Greek, and is relatively straightforward in interpretation. The prefix ‘dia’ simply means ‘through’, and ‘semata’ are ‘signs’, ‘hints’, ‘signals’. In combination, the significance is self-evident.’
More InformationOther members of series ‘Frieze’ are single, roughly rectangular horizontal elements. These are no different, except that the elements are presented in arrays, with each one symbolizing a single, perhaps limited view. The thin discordant elements within them align, and point to a larger conclusion.
By implication, a full picture of anything can emerge only by the synthesis of information obtained from numerous sources. In science– and indeed in many other spheres of endeavor– this methodology also pertains: it is only by triangulating on a problem from various viewpoints that a solution emerges.
Thus, each element can be thought of as a single ‘experiment’, and only collectively do they describe ‘strata’ that run through them. Those areas of ‘strata’ that are not directly described can be locally inferred. This process of inference is one that all of us use continually every day, and thus cuts to the heart of what it means to be sentient, synthesizing the implications of the ‘hints that run through’.
